Presidential biographer Doris Kearns Goodwin is settling in to a new chapter in her life. The author and historian spent the past two decades in a Colonial farmhouse in Boston’s Concord neighborhood, with her longtime husband, Richard, who recently died.
She’ll now be penning any future work from the 24th floor of the Ritz North Tower in downtown while peering out at the Charles River and Boston’s public gardens. Kearns Goodwin purchased a condo in the building for $2.56 million in late August.
It’s about a third of the size of her original home, but the unit still offers 2,242 square feet of living space with three bedrooms and three bathrooms. There’s even a library, but we’re unsure if it can accommodate Kearns Goodwin’s book collection.

She told the Boston Globe that she and Richard moved into their Concord home because their first home didn’t have enough space to house their book collection, which was 10,000 volumes at the time. She’s since shaved the collection by half to prepare for her move.
The well-appointed kitchen includes a breakfast bar, and the living room is expansive and bright, with natural light pouring in from the windows. Furthermore, an abundance of large windows throughout allow for city and river views.
The master bedroom comes with a small sitting area in front of a bay window, and the master bathroom features marble overlay from floor to ceiling.
Though the circumstances precipitating her move are sad, her new condo is bright and beautiful, and hopefully the perfect place to restart the creative juices flowing. Kearns Goodwin, a Pulitzer Prize winner, is known for her biographies on U.S. presidents, including Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
