Where did he go right? A Southampton, NY, home once owned by the comedy legend and director of “The Producers,” Mel Brooks, has sold for the full ask of $4,995,000.
The charming abode had originally listed just two months ago and sold in time for the holidays.
Built in 1960, the two-level shingled cottage features four beds and 3.5 baths, with 2,304 square feet of living space. With a huge deck that overlooks Shinnecock Bay, its layout offers views of the water from every room.
The “impeccably maintained” retreat includes an updated kitchen with marble counters, a formal dining room, and a living room with a fireplace. There’s also a fireplace in the master suite.
Set on 1.33 acres, the house has room to expand and add a pool, and the property is located directly across from the ocean.
Brooks and his late wife, movie star Anne Bancroft, purchased the property in March 2000. But the couple apparently had a change of heart, and found a different place they preferred in Water Mill, NY, just months later, for $3 million. So they let go of their Southampton property in November 2000 for $1.55 million, records show.
Still, the Hollywood couple clearly had an eye for real estate.
“It’s got that original Hamptons charm, on the most desirable oceanfront lane in Southampton,” says Michaela Keszler of Douglas Elliman.
Now 93, Brooks, a comic, writer, actor, and director, is best known for “The Producers,” “Blazing Saddles,” “Spaceballs,” and “Young Frankenstein.” (Sorry, “Frankensteen.”)
Bancroft, an Academy Award winner who died in 2005, played iconic roles in “The Graduate,” “The Miracle Worker,” and “The Elephant Man.”
Michaela Keszler of Douglas Elliman had the listing. Mary Quatroche from Morley Agency brought the buyer.
