Christopher Cox, a former California congressman and chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission, is letting go of his Laguna Niguel estate. It’s available for $6,888,000. Cox, 67, purchased the Orange County contemporary in 2011 for $5.34 million.

The property was built in 1989, and its expansive layout features seven bedrooms, 8.5 bathrooms, in 11,183 square feet.

Set in the exclusive Bear Brand Ranch behind private gates, the property offers panoramic ocean views, manicured grounds, and a parklike setting.

The living room, with French doors, opens out to the patio, offering ocean views. In addition to a dining room, the designer kitchen with mahogany accents contains a large center island and a walk-in pantry.

The master suite boasts a private balcony overlooking the ocean, a walk-in closet, and a master spa bath.

Set on almost an acre, the property includes a fountain, rolling lawns, a pool, spa, and entertaining areas.

Cox led the Securities and Exchange Commission under President George W. Bush. A lawyer, he represented Orange County as a Republican representative in Congress from 1989 to 2005. Since 2014, he has returned to private practice as a partner of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP and president of Morgan Lewis Consulting.
