Renovated and Ready, This Palm Springs Midcentury Modern Gem Resembles a Resort

The first aspect of this gorgeous midcentury modern home in Palm Springs, CA, that’s worth celebrating are the six bedrooms within. Most midcentury homes weren’t built with more than three or four bedrooms, making this place a standout.

The buyer “is going to be somebody who’s got a big family,” listing agent Jesse Huskey of Compass Real Estate says of the 3,310-square-foot, 5.5-bath home. “Finding something in the neighborhood with six bedrooms is very rare.”

Another selling point for the $2.5 million home is the new open floor plan.

“Everything’s been opened up,” Huskey adds. “The floor plan used to be chopped up. From the minute you walk into the front door, you can see into the living room, the dining room, and out at the casita.”

Built in 1970, the home also features abundant curb appeal and a primo location in the Vista Las Palmas neighborhood.

Back in the day, celebs such as Dean Martin and Elvis Presley maintained homes in the highly coveted neighborhood in central Palm Springs. Many of the area residences were designed by Charles Dubois and Alexander Construction Co.

“There’s an Americana vibe throughout the neighborhood with wide streets. It’s ideal Palm Springs, and what you’d expect,” says Huskey.

It’s also a short walk to North Palm Canyon Drive in downtown Palm Springs and close to restaurants, bars, and hip hotels.

“Within five minutes, you can be at some really cool spots,” he adds, “like the ARRIVE Hotel, a sushi restaurant called Sandfish, and Wexler’s Deli.”

The current owner is a “Palm Springs enthusiast” who has bought and reimagined other homes in the Vista Las Palmas neighborhood, Huskey says. He’s also opening a hotel soon in Palm Springs, after an extensive renovation of the resort’s midcentury modern bones. “He really invests in the community.”

Southern California furniture retailer West Coast Modern staged the rooms with period furnishings, including velvet wingback chairs and an arc floor lamp.

Well-preserved hallmarks of midcentury design are also visible throughout the home, including a floor-to-ceiling brick fireplace in the living room, vaulted ceilings, and sliding glass doors in nearly every room that open to the pool.

Modern enhancements keeping the home’s roots in mind were also added to the mix. Highlights in the kitchen include a white marble island and custom cabinetry in blond wood, while one of the bedrooms features geometric-patterned wallpaper and a Malm fireplace. New interior elements include a steam shower, updated baths (including wall tiles), HVAC, and terrazzo flooring.

A new backyard pool and spa, outdoor kitchen, and fire pit contribute to the home’s resort-style appeal. A brand-new casita with a separate entrance is included in the sale.

“If you live here (in Palm Springs) full time, you always have family visiting because it’s always nice here,” says Huskey. “Or, some people want to rent out a casita” for rental income.

We’re fine with staying in the casita—we’d just love the person who ends up buying the classic to give us a ring.
