Android Founder Andy Rubin Dials Up Massive Price Cut of Woodside Mansion

The co-founder of Android, Andrew E. Rubin, has dialed up another price cut in an effort to sell his Woodside, CA, mansion.

The Silicon Valley estate is now available for $24.6 million, which represents a 29% drop from the original ask last year of $34.6 million. With no takers, the price dropped at the beginning of the year to $27.9 million and has now been further slashed.

The current reduction places the luxury estate close to the $23 million Rubin paid for the property in 2014.

Built in 2003, the features listed read more like a Napa winery or a vacation resort than a run-of-the mill luxury home.

Set on 6.4 acres on a dead-end lane, the gated and spacious spread includes a four-bedroom main home, a two-bedroom guesthouse, a fitness building, and a 1,000-bottle wine cellar, meant to hold the property’s production of its own pinot noir vineyards.

In addition, the grounds include luxe amenities such as a clay tennis court and separate lighted sport court, an outdoor kitchen, and glass-tiled pool.

A remodel carried out in 2016 included the addition of smart-home features, keyless entry, new flooring, a security system with 38 cameras, automated shades, and a new lab. For the kids, a three-tree playhouse completes the offering.

Even with the price cut, the property still ranks as the second most expensive listing in the exclusive town—topped only by this $32 million offering. Rubin’s neighbor, GoPro founder Nick Woodman, is also looking to sell his pricey property, still on the market for $20 million

After Google acquired the mobile phone software company, Rubin, “the father of Android,” oversaw its development from 2005 to 2013. He left Google in 2014 after sexual assault allegations came to light, according to the New York Times. Rubin has denied these reports.

Rubin left the company with a $90 million exit package, news of which sparked employee protests at the internet search behemoth.

He then founded tech startup incubator Playground Global, which he left earlier this year with a $9 million exit package. And in 2017, he helped create an Android phone startup, Essentials. He and his ex-wife owned a bakery in Los Altos, which has since closed.
