There are a few pockets of art deco design across the country, but the style remains most prominent in South Florida. However, we were blissfully unaware of the offshoot style known as “Med deco.”
Until we met this one-of-a-kind, historic Med deco home in Miami—now available for $1.39 million.
“It’s a unique style really only found in Miami Beach. A fusion of art deco and Mediterranean Revival,” says Sam Gaita, the home’s co-listing agent.
The house, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, was built in 1939 by art deco architect Henry O. Nelson.
This fabulous dwelling recently received the royal upgrade treatment by designer Alex Alonso, who won Episode 4 of Bravo’s interior design competition show “Best Room Wins.”
Thanks to Alonso’s expert touch and a $450,000 renovation budget, the home now features a perfect fusion of old and new. All of the furniture and many of the finishes in the home are actually from the heyday of art deco style or sourced from the Mediterranean.
The original tile floors, ceiling beams, and fireplace are easy to spot, and are now complemented by custom Italian cabinetry and a beautiful Bertazzoni kitchen.
“The kitchen walls are made of Porcelanosa quartz,” says co-listing agent Frank Navarro. The quartz “offers a stunning appearance while being extremely durable and easy to clean.”
Measuring a modest 1,336 square feet, this notable abode offers three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. Custom wardrobes make for clean, tidy rooms with plenty of storage. Neutral paint colors alongside statement pieces and a ton of windows and glass doors make this historic home feel light, airy, and inviting.
In the backyard, a sparkling saltwater pool beckons. But this home doesn’t just have historic pedigree, custom finishes, and curb appeal. It also has location, and in Miami, the right neighborhood is everything.
“The home is in the heart of [South Beach], off the famous Espanola Way. It’s within walking distance to some of the best shops and restaurants, tennis courts, and ocean. Plus, it’s situated on a quiet cul-de-sac,” says Navarro.
Looking to entertain and use your home as a conversation starter? Make your way to this Med deco masterpiece.
