Kevin Durant’s Former Rental Home in the Oakland Hills Now Available for $6M

The former home of NBA legend Kevin Durant in Oakland, CA, has come on the market for $5.99 million.

The oversized modern mansion housed the MVP in 2017 and 2018, when he helped lead the Golden State Warriors to back-to-back championships. Durant signed on with the Brooklyn Nets after the 2019 season, and bid farewell to this property he rented in the Oakland Hills.

Along with a spacious and airy abode for the 6-foot-10-inch star, the residence has served as a corporate event space for Google, Facebook, Mercedes-Benz, and Lexus.

Way up in the hills, the mansion sits at the end of a cul-de-sac and offers unimpeded views of the Bay Area below.

“The view is really superb,” says the listing agent, Andrea Gordon with Compass. “It’s ridiculously great. It’s a five-bridge view. This place is really astonishing. It needs the right kind of person, who can appreciate what it is.”

The gated property on just shy of an acre was designed by the architect Mike Burgess in 2005, and was custom-built for the owners, who have decided to downsize. From the circular drive, guests enter the home through double glass doors, into a dramatic space with views straight through to the back of the house.

The 9,084-square-foot home features an atrium-style great room with a floor-to-ceiling wall of windows, designed to showcase the amazing Bay views. The entertaining space gives onto an outdoor patio that spans the rear of the home.

The spacious living and dining space adjoins an open kitchen with glossy red cabinets and a family room.

The contemporary-style residence boasts four en suite bedrooms and a total of seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms. The upstairs bedrooms offer private lanais.

The lower level includes two separate apartments, each with outdoor access. The bottom floor also features a plush red media room. A curved staircase connects the upper and lower levels.

Along with a level lawn and sweeping views, the outdoor space features a private basketball half-court. Yes, KD used it. You can see a livestream tour of the home that he gave back in 2017.

Gordon declined to say how much Durant paid in rent, but noted that he was drawn to the property for its Oakland address and convenient locale. We’re sure all that headroom didn’t hurt, either.

After he became a free agent in 2016, the 10-time All-Star signed on with the already loaded Warriors, after hosting some of the team’s greats at a Hamptons mansion. He joined up with his teammates, who became known as the “Hamptons 5.” In his time by the Bay, he won back-to-back championships, as well as two Finals MVP awards.
