Bloggers of Young House Love Sell Their Renovated Virginia Home in a Flash

After living and working through a yearslong renovation project in the suburbs of Richmond, VA, the home improvement bloggers known as Young House Love quickly sold their painstakingly remodeled home.

Fans of Sherry and John Petersik‘s DIY social media posts won’t be surprised a buyer snapped it up in no time. With over 300,000 followers on Instagram alone, the couple are well-known for their renovation adventures.

“This particular home was in high demand with over 50 showings strategically scheduled over a two-day period,” says listing agent Shannon Milligan with RVA Home Team brokered by.

After listing the home in early March, the couple received 14 offers.

“Buyers were enamored with the high-quality renovations performed by the sellers, and they also loved the transparency of all the work completed as outlined on the blog and podcast,” says Milligan.

In the end, the couple selected an offer that allowed them to rent back the home for several months. The couple are packing up and preparing to move to their next home, a smaller space but a big project in Florida.

“It was not the highest offer,” Sherry said on the podcast discussing the home sale.

Still, the couple made out pretty well from their Virginia investment. They’d purchased the home in 2012 for $350,000. On March 5, they listed it for $550,000, and it was sold on March 23 for $587,500.

“We fixed up the house slowly over seven years and loved it so much—it has been such a great home and there really wasn’t a square foot we didn’t touch,” Sherry says. “Whether it was fresh paint or adding built-ins or crown molding or a special custom tile pattern in the shower, we really did have a great time doing it.”

When the couple first came across the place, it was a red brick traditional. Inside the 1981 home, dated wallpaper, old carpet, and tired decor filled the space. The Petersiks documented their improvements over time on their popular blog.

The finished product bears almost no resemblance to the home they purchased eight years ago.

Once red brick with an oversize, covered porch, the house now features a bright white hue.

“We painted our brick with breathable masonry paint, and it was the most insane transformation ever,” the couple wrote of the 3,125-square-foot home with five bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms.
