An amenity-packed mansion in the Hamptons has landed on the market for $40 million. The luxurious, custom-built estate is this week’s most expensive new listing on realtor.com®.
Called the Sandcastle, the home was built in 2008 by Hamptons builder and owner Joe Farrell. He and wife Kristen Farrell lived in the over-the-top mansion until 2018, when they decided to downsize and placed it on the market for $49.9 million.
“We’re building something more modern and manageable,” Farrell told the New York Post in 2018. (You can watch a house tour from the homeowner himself.)
Last year, the listing reappeared with a $10 million price cut. This week, it’s back at the same price.
The couple had designed their 17,000-square-foot dream home using a long wish list compiled by their family—kids included. This all makes sense when you take a peek in the basement transformed into a fantasy world.

Jaw-dropping features on the lower level include a bowling alley with a snack bar, sport court, gym, rock climbing wall, skateboard half-pipe, golf simulator, and DJ booth. For those in search of relaxation, the lower level also houses a spa.
Upstairs, there’s a formal living room with fireplaces on either end, a formal dining room, a prep kitchen, and an open kitchen and breakfast room. There’s also a screened porch.
The home’s 11 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, and five half-baths include a 2,000-square-foot master suite with a private balcony and outdoor shower.
Other luxe features in the mansion include a home theater, wine room, and office.
The 11.5-acre property also features a tennis court, pool, hot tub, pool house, and baseball field.
The massive mansion has made headlines over the years. JAY Z and Beyoncé stayed there for a month, paying $400,000. Madonna also reportedly spent time at the luxury mansion.
In 2016, the cost to rent this megamansion for the month of July was $1 million. That same summer, Justin Bieber wanted to rest his head at Sandcastle while on his “Purpose” tour, but the property had already been booked. (Farrell reportedly let Bieber stay at another one of his deluxe homes for free.) Perhaps Bieber will consider a purchase of the tricked-out estate so he can finally spend some quality time in this Hamptons fantasy palace.
