The former home of Elizabeth “Libet” Johnson is back on the market with a massive price cut. Lightning Tree Farm in Millbrook, NY, is a 372-acre equestrian estate with a Greek Revival mansion near the Connecticut border. It’s available for $9.95 million.

Initially listed in 2016 for $28.5 million, it had nearly double the acreage of the current offering—which partly accounts for the massive 65% price cut.

Johnson, great-granddaughter of the co-founder of Johnson & Johnson, purchased the mansion in the early 1980s and then bought up a number of adjacent parcels, which make up the current offering.

A few years ago, she decided to sell the place, as her children all had homes elsewhere and no longer spend time in the area, a family spokesperson told the Wall Street Journal in 2016. Johnson died of Alzheimer’s disease in 2017. She was 66.

In addition to the 18,000-square-foot main residence, the property comes with a heliport, 18-stall barn, outdoor riding ring, three-bedroom guesthouse, and separate garage with a staff apartment.

Dating to 1850, the main house has been renovated and features natural light, oversize windows, and intricate moldings. Details include carved fireplaces, wallpaper, and tray ceilings.

The foyer features a curved staircase, and formal rooms include the library, dining room with fireplace, and living room. The modern, commercial-quality kitchen comes with a breakfast table and sitting area with fireplace.

Other amenities include a home theater, wine cellar, and a children’s playroom with a stage.

The en suite bedroom on the first floor comes with a fireplace and a separate entrance. The second-floor master suite has dual baths and custom dressing closets. In total, there are nine bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and three half-baths.

A separate wing of the mansion includes a dog room, mudroom, flower room, laundry room, and staff office.

Bluestone terraces grace the grounds, and there’s a spring-fed pond, formal gardens, as well as a pool and changing room.

John Friend with Houlihan Lawrence-Millbrook holds the Millbrook listing.
