Grab your cashmere cardigans and your chukka boots. Mickey Drexler, former CEO of upscale clothier J. Crew Group, is selling his mountain retreat in Ketchum, ID, for $10.9 million.
Built in 2000 for Drexler and his wife, Peggy Drexler, the getaway was designed by French architect Thierry Despont, whose celebrity clients include Bill Gates and Calvin Klein. However, the oddly shaped structure drew attention as it was being built. The 59-foot-high concrete, stone, and steel building described as a “tram terminal” generated complaints from neighbors.
Inside, the 5,550-square-foot layout resembles the set of a J. Crew photo shoot. With three bedrooms and five bathrooms, the home’s design leans into preppy plaids, with textiles, drapes, and even wallpaper covered in the tartan pattern.
Set on 1.33 acres on Knob Hill, the home is just a block from downtown Ketchum.
The living room features a soaring ceiling, wood paneling, exposed beams, and a double-sided fireplace. On the other side of the fireplace is a billiard room. An eat-in kitchen includes a dining table as well as wood cabinets.
The living space opens to a patio, and multiple decks feature a kitchen, dining space, and lounge areas. The master suite comes with a fireplace and a luxe bath with separate tub and dual vanities.
The home includes an elevator, as well as a mud room with a built-in bench with plaid cushions.
And as you’d expect from the fashionable Drexler, the home is furnished to the hilt, with carved animal figurines, oversize furniture, and artwork.
The home is being offered with its “curated collection of furnishings and art.”
Drexler has quite a real estate portfolio. He sold his Montauk, NY, compound, which was formerly owned by Andy Warhol, in 2015. He also sold a second Hamptons home for $15 million in 2018.
He reportedly owns a Park Avenue condo and a Tribeca apartment. Plus, he snapped up Klein’s former Miami Beach, FL, spread in 2017 for $13 million.
Drexler, 75, was previously CEO of the Gap, and is credited with its dominance in casual wear in the 1990s. Joining J. Crew in 2003, he turned the company into an upscale fashion brand. He stayed with the retailer until 2017.
Tom Drougas holds the listing.
