Rich in history and exquisitely reimagined, an iconic residence in Washington, DC, once owned by President John F. Kennedy has landed on the market for $4,675,000.

The three-bedroom Georgetown residence was built in 1800, but was gutted down to the bricks in 2006 by then-owner Jon Ledecky. He recruited builder Todd Glass, who oversaw the job to completion in 2008.

Ledecky “never actually lived in the home after it was finished, because he bought the New York Islanders,” according to the home’s broker, Christie-Anne Weiss. The home was sold to the current owners in 2008 for $4.2 million.

Weiss notes that the millwork and craftsmanship throughout the 4,600-square-foot home is unlike anything she’s ever seen, and calls Glass a “master.” The home’s stairs were carved by hand and the banister painted with more than 15 coats of lacquer to achieve its spectacular sheen, she adds. “It’s one of the preeminent properties in the area.”

Kennedy was rumored to have met Jacqueline Bouvier at a dinner party hosted by a neighbor while living in the home from 1950 to 1953. His sister Eunice Kennedy was reportedly dating Sargent Shriver while staying at the home with her brother.

“They were very social,” Weiss adds.

Sidney Harman, businessman, philanthropist, and name behind the famed stereo company Harman Kardon, has also called the notable address at 34th Street “home.”

“It’s as elegant as a space can be,” Weiss says. “It can be used comfortably for entertaining formally or informally—entertaining an ambassador or a group of friends.”

Besides the curved staircase, Weiss says the rooftop terrace is her favorite part of the home, with views from Georgetown University to the Washington Monument, National Cathedral, and the Kennedy Center.

The brick Federal-style home sits on a historic cobblestone street in the heart of Georgetown.

With more than 200 years of U.S. history, this spectacular property is available for a buyer who wants to be part of the capital social scene. It’s an exquisite step into a space where the cliche “if these walls could talk” is an understatement.
