Spectacular $68M Newport Coast Mansion Is the Week’s Most Expensive New Listing

Orange County

A spectacular mansion in Newport Coast, CA, with “unrivaled views” and “absolute privacy” is this week’s most expensive new listing on realtor.com®. It just landed on the market for $68 million, which also makes it the most expensive listing in Orange County.

A sale at or close to list price could place it on the “short list of priciest home sales for 2020,” according to the Orange County Register. It could also set a county record if it eclipses a $55 million sale in 2017.

“The quality of construction is really exceptional,” says listing agent Rob Giem with Compass. “This is not a spec house.”

The owners bought two vacant lots on which to build the custom abode.

“There are no more vacant lots in spots like this,” Giem says. “To get two contiguous lots in such a desirable location [is] very unusual.”

But the homeowners don’t live in California, according to the agent. Although they picked a prime location, they rarely using the magnificent mansion and have decided to sell it.

Built on a hilltop in 2017, the home features “an 80-mile-wide panorama of ocean, coastline, and city lights … from every major room,” according to the listing.

The 18,717-square-foot mansion sits on the “front row,” with no other streets or homes to obstruct the glorious views. The home overlooks a golf course, the ocean, and Newport Harbor.

Located in the guard-gated Crystal Cove community, the double-lot parcel measures nearly an acre. The property features manicured grounds plus a 6,800-square-foot garage with space for a dozen cars. There’s also a separate guesthouse.

Light and airy, the home’s contemporary layout frames the water views with its massive windows that slide open at the press of a button, while extending the living space outside.

The mansion has six bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, and three half-baths. There’s a formal dining room, great room, family room, office, home theater, sauna, and gym.

Out back there’s a central courtyard, a heated pool and spa, and a sunken seating area with a fire pit.

The mansion also comes with a little mystique. Giem has intentionally held back on overly detailed descriptions or photos of some of the home’s best perks. He’s saved those extravagances for qualified buyers lucky enough to tour the home in person.

The listing promises interiors that include “every amenity one could desire”—but we’ll have to take the agent at his word.
