The star couple Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello have snagged the former Beverly Hills mansion of the baseball legend Barry Bonds, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The European-style estate in the exclusive enclave of Beverly Park changed hands this week for $26 million.

This is a nifty move on the part of the handsome couple. Let us count the reasons why we’re intrigued by this A-list acquisition…

1. A little house history

As baseball’s all-time home-run king, Bonds hit hundreds of dingers—762, to be exact. And in 2002, at the height of his on-field powers, he swung for the fences in the world of high-end real estate. He purchased this Beverly Hills villa for $8.7 million.

Over a decade later, he wanted to cash in on his 90210 investment. He quietly shopped the property in early 2013 for $25 million, but found no buyer willing to step into the batter’s box.

The home eventually wound up on the market for $23.5 million in December 2013, and sold a few months later for $22 million.

Although he didn’t snag the price he was hoping for, Bonds still emerged as a huge winner.

2. It’s been traded several times since Bonds’ departure

After Bonds vacated his long-time SoCal spot, the home traded hands several times. It sold again in 2016 for $26.5 million.

Back on the market again in August 2018 for $33 million, the home was bought at a 30% discount in March 2019 for $23 million, by Diana Chen, the Chinese metals tycoon, the Real Deal reported.

But Chen didn’t stay long. The Tuscan-style residence returned to the market at the end of 2019, with a $30 million price tag. It eventually sold for $26 million, to Vergara and Manganiello.

3. Bonds left his mark

After the slugger picked up the property, he expanded the home’s footprint by 5,500 square feet.

The massive mansion now spans a whopping 17,100 square feet. When Bonds held court, the place boasted custom fish tanks, a music room, gym, elevator, and a movie theater with hand-painted trompe l’oeil murals.

4. Serene setting

Set on 1.85 acres, and located in the gated community of North Beverly Park, the custom home is private and is likely to prove attractive to celebrities in need of a secluded sanctuary.

5. Ultimate luxury

According to the most recent listing details, the extensively renovated Tuscan-style estate offers “the ultimate in every luxury and amenity.” Sadly, the most recent listing photos don’t show the interior of the massive mansion.

But according to those same details, the deluxe layout features soaring, 30-foot ceilings and entertaining rooms all looking onto the west-facing yard.

The palatial residence also includes a main floor with imported limestone columns, hand-painted murals, and crystal chandeliers, the L.A. Times reported.

6. Plenty of places to rest your head

Featuring six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, the owner’s suite comes with a “sublime” master suite with enormous separate dual baths and closets. In addition, there are three more en suite bedrooms, plus two staff suites. A two-story guesthouse on the property comes with a living room, bedroom suite, and kitchen.

7. Lush landscape

Outside, the almost 2-acre grounds include patios, loggias, pool, and cabana, as well as a lighted, sunken sport court. No batting cage, however.

8. Designed with both family and friends in mind

The large-scale home is also designed to host large-scale events. The residence features a massive circular motor court with a fountain, which can handle multiple cars. For luxury vehicle storage, there’s also a four-car garage.

9. Star appeal

In addition to her talents and charisma, Vergara also makes shrewd business deals. And she may have a soft spot for the area. Before her marriage to Manganiello in 2015, the “Modern Family” actress paid $10.6 million for a huge Beverly Hills mansion in 2014.

The gated 11,400-square-foot compound with seven bedrooms offers luxe perks including a 3,000-bottle wine cellar and tasting room, a movie theater, a card room, and a gym with a sauna.

The over half-acre grounds included a pool and spa. While the Bev Hills home Vergara bought in 2014 is quite a spread, her latest purchase still represents an upgrade.

Vergara, who was the highest-paid TV actress in 2019, also owns a high-rise condo in Los Angeles, which she picked up in 2007. She last placed the unit on the rental market in 2019.

10. Joe let one go

Manganiello, known for playing the hunky werewolf in “True Blood,” let go of his howl-worthy bachelor pad in the Hollywood Hills before he was married. The midcentury modern abode sold for $1,925,000 in 2015.

Victoria A. Risko with Sotheby’s International Realty-Beverly Hills Brokerage represented the seller. Barry S. Peele with Sotheby’s International Realty-Beverly Hills Brokerage represented the buyer.
