The former NASCAR driver and current NASCAR analyst Michael Waltrip purchased a relatively modest home in Cornelius, NC, late last year for $700,000.
Waltrip’s ranch-style stucco home was built in 2004, and features three bedrooms and 2.5 baths in 3,366 square feet of living space.
It sits on a half-acre lot in the prestigious lakefront community known as The Peninsula, just up the road from the community country club. It’s also down the street from the Peninsula Yacht Club, a private club on the shores of Lake Norman.
The remodeled two-story home landed on the market last fall with an asking price of $735,000—which means that Waltrip was able to race away with a bit of a discount.
Once inside, you’ll notice the floor-to-ceiling windows, which allow an abundance of natural light into the home. That airy feel continues throughout the main living spaces, thanks to a calming neutral palette and the high ceilings.

The large kitchen is a chef’s dream, with an enormous quartz island, two sinks, a large range, and tons of storage space. A custom stacked stone high-efficiency fireplace in the living room is another highlight, offering a pleasing contrast to the white walls.
The owners’ suite features a cathedral-style ceiling and huge transom windows. The master bathroom was recently remodeled, with heated Peruvian stone flooring, a warming towel rack, and a large soaking tub.
The hardwood floors in the home have been refinished, and built-in speakers throughout the home make for easy entertaining.
Outside, the views from the private terrace overlook the in-ground pool, hot tub, and lovely trees, which provide welcome shade. Although the foliage provides additional privacy, it doesn’t obscure the views of Lake Norman.
Waltrip, 57, won four NASCAR races in the course of his 33-year career and notched an additional 233 top-10 finishes. His last race was the 2017 Daytona 500, in which he piloted his car to an eighth-place finish.
