The Memorabilia Collection in This Maize-and-Blue Home in Michigan Will Blow Your Mind

University of Michigan superfan home

There are run-of-the-mill University of Michigan fans, and then there’s Loren Joostberns. For nearly three decades, the single, retired teacher turned his Hamilton, MI, home into a maize-and-blue shrine to the Wolverines.

Michigan alumni who regularly hum “The Victors” should know the house is now on the market for $169,000. However, the sale price doesn’t include any of the Wolverine memorabilia crammed inside the home.

After the Detroit Free Press reported on the Michigan superfan’s home, listing agent Jeannette Brownson was inundated. Brownson, whose own children were in “Mr. J’s” class, says she’s received a ton of interest in the house from both fans and former students.

Most of the inquiries are about the wild Wolverine-themed decor. But if buyers can look past the decor, she says, they’ll find a lovely three-bedroom, one-bathroom, 1,250-square-foot, Cape Cod in a quiet suburban neighborhood with excellent schools. The bathroom, air conditioning, furnace, and dishwasher have all been recently updated.

Fans concerned about Saturday game days should know the home’s located about 150 miles west of Michigan’s famed Big House in Ann Arbor. And in the interest of full disclosure, Brownson reveals there’s an Ohio State family just down the street.

We asked if she’s broached the subject of emptying the house for staging, and she says her client is not interested.

“He’s very proud of his stuff,” she says. “And he said for every item he’s got in the house, there are two more in storage.”

Joostberns plans to move to a condo closer to the school where he worked for decades, where he’s still heavily involved as a substitute teacher and coach.

With the sheer amount of stuff inside the shrine to the school, the task ahead is onerous.

“It’s going to be a big job,” Brownson says of the upcoming move.

Joostberns gave local news Fox 17 a tour of the home—and all the stuff he’s collected over his 45 years as a Michigan season ticket holder. But the most interesting revelation? Joostberns isn’t a University of Michigan alum. He went to Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, but he’s been a Wolverines fan as long as he can remember.
