If you’re in search of an interesting dwelling in Pennsylvania, we know where to head.
“Bucks County is not usual in any way,” says listing agent Caryn Black of Kurfiss/Sotheby’s International Realty. “It’s the home of antique stone houses that go back to the 1500s.”
In this setting in New Hope, a midcentury modern home—designed and built in 1958 by Jules Gregory—stands out. Listed with Black for $3,495,000, the three-bedroom, four-bath home sits on a 1.42 acres overlooking a land preserve. The vibe appears more Palm Springs than Pennsylvania.
“Whenever these come on the market, they are very sought-after,” says Black, who estimates there are currently only about 40 houses listed above $2 million in Bucks County.
This particular brick and glass home has had four owners. The current owners purchased the home for $750,000 15 years ago, but they’re leaving it in tiptop shape and fresh off multiple renovations.
“There’s nothing left to do to this house,” says Black. “This house was gutted top to bottom, smaller additions put on, all in a two-year period. They moved out during this time.”
Nine skylights and walls of windows fill the home with natural light while black lacquer cabinetry (in a wet bar just off the living room, in the kitchen, and in the master bath) is in perfect pitch with the home’s Hollywood Regency decor. Gloss-black hardwood flooring throughout and the vaulted ceiling in the living room add a touch of Swiss chalet to the design.
Other perks include a three-car garage, walk-in closet, outdoor pool, and built-in desks in the family room. For home chefs and entertainers, the 16-foot island, quartz countertops, and high-end appliances in the kitchen are enticing. And speaking of entertaining, whole-house audio is already installed.
A large rear deck—accessible from the living room, family room, and kitchen—features a fire pit and barbecue area. It’s only a short walk to the pool.
For overnight guests, two en suite bedrooms are situated at one end of the house. The master suite is gem featuring a free-standing soaking tub overlooking the yard as well as a walk-in shower finished in quartz slabs. Any fashionista will be happy with the boutique-size dressing room and walk-in closet.
“Even people who don’t like contemporary [style] see this house and say, ‘Oh, my God, I could live in this house,’” says Black.
The same things that draw buyers to Bucks County—an hour from Philadelphia and 90 minutes to New York City—such as “a phenomenal school district” and “a beautiful, quaint area with not a lot of development,” says Black, will likely apply here as well.
