The former Southampton, NY, home of Felix G. Rohatyn has come on the market. The investment banker and diplomat died in 2019 at the age of 91.

The shingle-sided residence is on the market for the first time in almost 50 years. Built in 1975, the four-bedroom home on 2 acres is available for $12.5 million.

A wealthy buyer could also scoop up two contiguous properties. The second property is a converted historic barn and comes with a pool and gardens on two acres. Both properties are offered for $27 million.

“It’s just a fabulous property,” says listing agent Harald Grant. “You don’t get a location like that with two lots together. It’s a rarity.”

Just a block to ocean beaches, the properties both have gated entrances and winding drives through mature landscaping with 200-year-old trees. The main residence measures 3,615 square feet and has four bedrooms, and four bathrooms.

Broad patios and French doors allow for indoor-outdoor living.

The space includes a dining room, kitchen, basement, staff areas, and office with a full bath. Upstairs, you’ll find the master suite, guest suite, two more bedrooms, and a bath.

Stone paths wind between the two houses, and there are walking paths and gardens.

The home’s location is just down the street from the heart of the village.

Grant notes the two contiguous properties offer a buyer options to build a new home or add on to the nonhistoric house for a family compound or massive estate with a guesthouse.

With its pristine farmland, miles of beaches, extravagant mansions, as well as proximity to Manhattan, Southampton draws the wealthy and celebrities alike. Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein had a home nearby in the 1990s, and Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, Howard Stern, Tory Burch, and Calvin Klein have all had homes here. “Real Housewives of New York” cast member Ramona Singer owns a home there, which she occasionally rents out.

Rohatyn, who escaped Nazi-occupied France, arrived in the U.S. as a child refugee in 1942. He later became a partner at Lazard, and was considered a pillar of Wall Street. He’s also credited for steering New York City out of a major fiscal crisis in the 1970s. Under President Bill Clinton, he served as ambassador to France. And the financier assisted in plans to protect the city after Hurricane Sandy as co-chair of the New York State 2100 Commission.
