The musician Morris Day is singing goodbye to his California home. The Orange County abode is now available for $3.1 million.

Day—famous for his longtime association with the late superstar Prince—had moved to the melodious mansion in 2019, paying $2.5 million.

The lead singer for The Time must think this is the right time to sell, and he stands to pocket a profit if he manages to get the asking price.

Located in the upscale community of Coto de Caza, the home is billed as offering “privacy and a perfect setting.” The 6,000-square-foot layout features six bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms.

The property includes a long, circular driveway to a five-car garage and separate guesthouse.

Built in 1990, the updated main house features a traditional floor plan, with a formal living room and dining room.

A remodeled kitchen includes granite counters, a center island, Wolf range and Sub-Zero fridge, white cabinetry, coffered ceilings, and built-ins. The kitchen adjoins a two-story kitchen nook and two-sided fireplace that connects the family room. French doors lead outside.

The floor plan also includes an office as well as a bonus room that could be used as office or entertainment space, with entry from the garage. Judging by the listing photos, some of the large number of bedrooms are currently being used for musical pursuits.

One room currently features a drum set, and another is filled with guitars and recording equipment. Other amenities of the home include a game room and a bar.

The upstairs master bedroom includes a giant closet with an island, and a bathroom with separate soaking tub, a glassed-in shower, and double sinks.

The property is set on 1.93 acres, and its private backyard includes a fountain on the hillside with views, a barbecue area with a bar that seats four, plus a covered outdoor living room with a fireplace and TV, adjacent to the pool and spa.

Day, 63, attended the same Minneapolis high school as Prince, and became the drummer for Prince’s band Grand Central in the 1970s, the start of a long association between the two. With The Time, he released five albums and the unforgettable track “Jungle Love.” In 1984, Day starred as Prince’s rival in the movie “Purple Rain.”

The funkster recently co-authored a book, “On Time: A Princely Life in Funk,” recounting his memories of the artist in a series of fictional conversations between the two of them.

Nora Gallogly with Keller Williams Realty holds the listing.
