Kirstjen Nielsen, who served in the Trump administration as secretary of homeland security, has found a buyer for her Alexandria, VA, townhome. The upscale abode in the city’s Old Town neighborhood came on the market earlier this year for $1.02 million.
The former secretary, who resigned from President Donald Trump‘s Cabinet in 2019, paid $887,900 in 2014 for the three-level residence. The home appealed to a buyer. After just over a month on the market, the listing is currently in “contingent” status.
Purchased brand-new, the unit “still shines like new build,” according to the listing. With three bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, and 1,922 square feet, the Colonial-style home features a traditional floor plan.
On the main level, there’s an eat-in kitchen that opens to the family room. The kitchen is decked out with modern fixtures, white cabinets, quartz countertops, pantry storage, a breakfast bar, and stainless-steel appliances.
This floor includes a living room as well as a dining area that looks out to the patio. The flow continues outside, to a private, enclosed outdoor space with a flagstone patio for dining outside.
Up one level are two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and a laundry room. The spacious primary bedroom offers two walk-in closets and an en suite bathroom with dual sinks and walk-in shower.
The townhome’s top level comes with a flexible loft space, full bathroom, and a third bedroom that could be used as a home office.
Another highlight of the home is a roof terrace to take in city views while relaxing outside. Upscale details within include hardwood floors, recessed lighting, custom shutters, and on-trend paint colors.
Two assigned parking spaces come with the home, and the property features a front porch for additional outdoor space.
The location is convenient to public transit, interstate access, and is close to local dining, shops, and grocery stores. Parks, trails, and the Potomac waterfront offer recreational options.
Nielsen joined the Trump administration in 2017, initially as John F. Kelly‘s chief of staff at the Department of Homeland Security. After a short stint as principal deputy chief of staff under Kelly, Nielsen was nominated for her Cabinet position in October 2017.
After her appointment at Homeland Security, she implemented the Trump administration’s controversial family separation policy for those seeking to immigrate at the U.S.-Mexican border. After coming in for fierce criticism from the president on the issue of border protection, she resigned in April 2019.
In her newest venture, she advises technology companies on new and emerging security threats.
Sue Goodhart with Compass holds the listing.
