It’s never too soon to be thinking about a winter retreat. And for a certain echelon of homebuyer, Aspen is the place to be when temperatures cool. It’s well known as “the most expensive ski town in America.”

In that wealthy vein, a riverfront residence in Aspen, CO, sitting on nearly 1 acre, is this week’s most expensive new listing on realtor.com®.

The estate has landed on the market for $32.9 million. Although it’s plenty pricey, several mansions currently for sale in Aspen top the price of this new listing.

Located on “one of Aspen’s most coveted” streets, this estate’s claim to fame is being one of the first homes built on Willoughby Way, and one of only four homes with direct access to the river.

In fact, the neighborhood attracts so many wealthy residents, the Red Mountain area has been dubbed “Billionaire Mountain,” by Forbes.

Well-heeled residents have included the Walmart heiress Ann Walton Kroenke and  the parents of Jeff Bezos.

As for the current listing, the property was purchased in 2008 for $15.8 million, and a 10,629-square-foot mountain getaway was built in 2010. The rustic construction includes wood beams, stone, and decks to take in the natural surroundings.

The “Riverfront Red Mountain Estate,” as the listing calls it, is of “enduring significance” and exudes “timeless mountain elegance,” according to the listing details.

The “thoughtful” floor plan features six bedrooms, six full bathrooms, and three half-baths. In the living room, you’ll find a vaulted ceiling and a fireplace with a massive stone surround.

The eat-in kitchen includes a center island that can double as a dining table.

On cold evenings, head to the billiard-room adjacent to the family room. Along with the master suite, a fun, built-in bunkroom can host overflow guests.

The home’s multiple decks offer plenty of space for outdoor dining and boast views of the river and Aspen Mountain.

The generously sized layout has room for an office and a gym. In addition, the grounds include a conveniently snowmelt/heated stone walkway that leads to the Roaring Fork River and Rio Grande Trail.

Carrie Wells with Coldwell Banker Mason-Morse Aspen holds the listing.
