The open floor plan—in which the cooking, dining, and living areas are all in the same room—has been the amenity of choice for many home buyers and renters for years. It’s often touted in listing details. Turn on any HGTV show, and you’ll hear a home makeover star talk about knocking down walls and opening up the layout.
