The new Jacksonville Jaguars coach, Urban Meyer, has reportedly picked up a home right down the block from Tim Tebow, the Heisman Trophy winner.
Purchased through a trust connected with the coach, the home sold last month for $2.15 million, according to the Jacksonville Daily Record.
The property purchase comes on the heels of rumors about Tebow’s potential return to the NFL. Tebow had most recently been playing baseball, but is supposedly considering a return to football, to team again in the NFL with his college coach.
Tebow starred at the University of Florida under Meyer. However, rather than attempting to return as quarterback with the Jaguars, Tebow, who is 33, would make his miraculous comeback as a tight end.
Now that the two live on the same street, Tebow might find it convenient should he require some extra reps in his own backyard.
As for the house Meyer bought, the almost 6,000-square-foot, “beautifully built and well maintained” home in Glen Kernan Golf and Country Club comes with four bedrooms, four full bathrooms, and two half-baths.
Built in 2007, it has custom finishes, and the interior features dark wood moldings, built-ins, and cabinetry in almost every room.
The Spanish-style residence also comes with an elevator that connects all three levels. Other highlights include a formal living room with a fireplace, and a formal dining room with a painted ceiling. The kitchen adjoins a butler’s pantry and breakfast area, and looks out to a family room.
The master bedroom offers a sitting area, multiple windows, and a large bathroom with a separate shower and tub.
Other perks include a game room, gym, office, and a third-floor bonus room.
Outside, the backyard features a heated pool with spa and summer kitchen, perfect for hosting Meyer’s friendly neighbors, the Tebows.
Cozy neighborhood
In fact, Tebow and his wife, Demi-Leigh Tebow, have owned two properties in the area. The couple own an opulent contemporary that they picked up in 2019 for $2.9 million—a significant discount on the asking price of $3.5 million.
Built in 2016, the massive, contemporary-style home features five bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms, on 8,247 square feet of interior space.
Outside, the 1.49 acres include a large veranda overlooking the pool, lake, and golf course. A covered space offers lounging and dining areas. Guests can also relax around a fire pit.
This is the second property the former professional athlete has picked up in the community. In 2014, he reportedly paid $1.4 million for a smaller home, also in Glen Kernan, and then recently sold, also for $1.4 million.
Initially listed for $1.7 million a year ago, the price on the brick traditional dropped down to $1.6 million before selling at the exact amount Tebow paid.
In 2010, Tebow was drafted by the Denver Broncos, but was never able to replicate his college success at the pro level. He then switched sports, to baseball, joining the New York Mets organization and playing for their minor league affiliates. He also appears on ESPN and the SEC Network as a football analyst.
Meyer, 56, is the new head coach for the beleaguered Jaguars. His long coaching career most recently included head coaching roles at Ohio State University and the University of Florida. He is just one of three coaches to win college championships at two universities.
