Take Me Home! West Virginia’s Most Expensive House Is a $19.5M Hilltop Mansion

West Virginia's Most Expensive House

A huge house overlooking a forest in Summersville, WV, is the state’s most expensive listing, at $19.5 million.

“It’s a property that sits on top of a hill and encompasses just over 100 acres, and the views are spectacular,” says the referring agent, Marin Hagen. “You really get the sense of it being a serene retreat—simply based on the siting of the house on the property.”

Built in 2010 with a number of standout features, the grand mansion on Irish Heights Drive measures in at nearly 16,000 square feet.

“It’s very livable and very comfortable. But it’s also very grand when you enter, and if you wanted to entertain formally, it has the space to do that inside and outside,” she explains.

The home is in Nicholas County, which is smack-dab in the center of the Mountain State. It’s an outlier in a number of respects—its elegance, its size, and most importantly, its price. The median home listing price in the county currently sits at an extremely modest $134,500, well below the national median of $370,000.

The main house has five bedrooms, including a main-level master with a dual bathroom and a private outdoor hot tub. There are six full bathrooms and three powder rooms, including one in the four-car garage.

A large kitchen features two islands and plenty of storage space, thanks to a walk-in pantry.

“The appliances are all Wolf, Miele, and Sub-Zero, as you would expect,” Hagen explains.

She adds that the home doesn’t exactly have an open floor plan, but the kitchen sits directly opposite a family room with a cozy fireplace.

Also close to the kitchen is a large laundry room, which boasts a dog washing station. Additional laundry space sits on the second floor. The basement is unfinished, but could be polished up to provide even more living space.

For overnight (or long-term) guests, there’s a separate guest suite with its own kitchen.

High-end features of the mansion include a gym, a dedicated massage room, and a 3,000-bottle wine cellar. There’s also an infinity pool complete with an outdoor kitchen, for “true indoor and outdoor living,” Hagen says.

She says that when she first laid eyes on the luxurious property, she simply felt grateful to be working with such a beautiful home.

“It’s such a pleasure for us in this business when you’re lucky enough to see a house that has been built so well and designed so well, and it’s also so well cared for, it’s just a treat,” she says. “This is one of those properties.”

Hagen says the perfect buyer could either be someone who wants to live in the property full time or someone looking for an escape.

“If you wanted a luxury space to retreat to, where you could truly retreat, I think this is ideal,” she says.

It’s close to the famed Greenbrier Resort and convenient to get to, so Hagen says the property could also make a good executive retreat.

“You can feel like you’re escaping somewhere, and yet it’s very accessible via car or via plane,” she says.

As for being West Virginia’s most expensive listing, Hagen says she’s very proud of that.

“It’s an honor to represent it, and we hope that a lucky buyer will see it in the same way and appreciate all of the beauty in the house, the quality craftsmanship, the attention to detail, and everything else,” she says.

The listing agent is Jim Shebest.
