Bryan Cranston’s Eco-Friendly Beach Home Has Sold for $5.45M

Bryan Cranston Sells Ventura Home

Bryan Cranston, star of “Breaking Bad,” has had some good news.

His eco-friendly Ventura, CA, beach house sold just weeks after coming on the market, the Los Angeles Times reported.

In February, the dreamy green beach build landed on the market for $5 million. The actor’s custom-built, environmentally friendly abode managed to top that figure, with a final sale price of $5.45 million.

The actor and his wife, Robin Dearden, bought the place in 2007 for $2.5 million, according to the L.A. Times. They then set about transforming what had been a 1940s beach bungalow. He enlisted a designer friend, John Turturro (no relation to the actor!), and the resulting concept is a net-zero, sustainable structure.

The solar panels on the roof, along with energy-efficient appliances and construction methods, mean that the home has a virtually no-cost energy bill.

However, these days, the busy entertainer is not spending much time at his sustainable vacation getaway, and he decided to let it go to a new owner, as he told the Wall Street Journal.

The modern dwelling known as “Three Palms” measures 2,450 square feet, and offers three bedrooms and four bathrooms.

Towers covered in titanium help guard against the elements, and give the structure a fortresslike look from the outside. Inside, huge sliding glass doors bathe the interior in natural light, and the open floor plan and decor warm up the space.

The living area accesses multiple beachfront patio areas, expanding the living space outside.

The ultramodern kitchen includes high-end cabinetry and appliances. Other details include polished concrete flooring and smart home capabilities.

The furniture, some of it custom-made for the house, was available for buyers to purchase, as well as some of the art on the walls from Cranston’s personal collection.

One floor up, the bedroom retreat features a walk-in closet, a bathroom with a stand-alone soaking tub and separate shower, as well as a balcony with ocean views.

The private second bedroom also has an ocean view. Other bedrooms offer en suite bathrooms for privacy and comfort for family and guests.

The back deck is just steps to the beach.

Cranston relayed in a press statement his difficult decision to sell.

“I put my heart, soul, and blood, sweat, and often tears into it, and I’m glad, because it was such an artistic endeavor, and yet functional,” he said, adding, “There’s something lovely about creating something with tremendous pride and effort and turning it over … letting someone else take it to the next level of appreciation.”

Let’s hope that final high offer helped to take the sting out of selling.

Cranston, 65, first became known for his hilarious roles as the father, Hal, in the sitcom “Malcolm in the Middle” and the dentist Tim Whatley in “Seinfeld.” He showed incredible range with his portrayal of Walter White in the addictive drama “Breaking Bad,” which was recognized with multiple awards.

More recently, the multitalented performer won a Tony Award for his portrayal of President Lyndon B. Johnson in the Broadway show “All the Way,” which was later adapted as a special on HBO. Cranston has had multiple film roles, in such movies as “Little Miss Sunshine,” “Argo,” and “The Upside.”

Jon Perkins and Katie Walsh with Coldwell Banker held the listing.
