Kate Winslet Sells Her Chic NYC Penthouse for $5.3M

The star of “Titanic,” Kate Winslet, has sailed away from her New York City duplex apartment, the New York Post reports.

Listed last November for $5.7 million, the chic space has now sold for $5.3 million, according to the Post. Lindsay Barton Barrett with Douglas Elliman represented the seller.

In 2004, the star of “Mare of Easttown” purchased the penthouse with her former husband, the director Sam Mendes, for $5 million. After the couple divorced, the actress bought out Mendes’ ownership for $2.15 million in 2012. Since then, she’s been reportedly renting the place out for $30,000 a month.

But the English actress finally decided to cut ties with the stylish abode in 2020, and walked away after roughly breaking even on her real estate adventure.

Located in West Chelsea, the two-floor apartment in the boutique, five-floor building offers four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, with 3,000 square feet of living space.

The loft-style abode offers walls of windows and a 46-foot-wide great room with a gas fireplace. Interior details include whitewashed, wide-plank oak floors, 13-foot-tall ceilings, and an enviable 1,700-square-foot roof deck.

An open chef’s kitchen features butcher-block cabinets, a massive center island with a breakfast bar, and Viking and Sub-Zero appliances. The owner’s suite includes a huge walk-in closet, and an en suite bathroom with wainscoting, a clawfoot soaking tub, separate shower, and dual vanities.

Two more bedrooms are located across the hall from the master bedroom, along with a powder room and in-unit laundry. On the top floor, an open space with a full bathroom and closet could easily work as an additional bedroom suite, a home office, or a lounge.

Just outside, the wraparound rooftop terrace offers views of the High Line, Hudson River, and city skyline, with plenty of space to throw a party.

The location is conveniently close to world-class galleries and dining, the Chelsea Market, and the Whitney Museum. Hudson River Park offers waterfront green space. The area also has plenty of public transit options, plus bike sharing through Citi Bike.

Winslet can currently be seen in a gripping HBO drama, “Mare of Easttown.” Her many movie credits include “Sense and Sensibility,” “Revolutionary Road,” and “The Reader,” for which she won an Oscar.
