A brand-new house built for an MLB All-Star in Southwest Ranches, FL, is available for $8.9 million.
The longtime big leaguer Asdrúbal Cabrera and his family just finished building the 9,000-square-foot home on Stratford Court, but never moved in.
Right around the shutdown for the pandemic, their daughter started getting into equestrian activities, the listing agent, Giselle Bonetti, reports.
“They have a farm that they own up north, but it’s a two-hour drive to get there,” she says.
“So they thought ‘OK, we’re building this beautiful house that has all the land, but it’s not very horse-friendly.’ They decided to build something where they could do a barn in the back, so their daughter can have access to the horse.”
As a result, the family has decided to gallop away from this brand-new home.
The sleek modern property sits on 2.13 acres in the gated community of Landmark Ranches in Broward County.
The architecture firm Choeff Levy Fischman designed the home, with a tropical modern aesthetic, featuring clean lines and offering a potent combination of indoor and outdoor living space with views from virtually every room.
“The entire back of the house faces in a very vertical way, so you can get a beautiful view of the horizon and the sunset every day,” Bonetti says.
For the family, the seamless flow between indoor and outdoor living was crucial.
“They felt that in the other house that they were in, either they were outside or inside,” Bonetti says, adding that the family loves to entertain. “The biggest thing that they wanted to feel was they weren’t separated from the outside.”
There’s a long pool, visible from anywhere inside the house, a sunken fire pit, and an outdoor kitchen.
“If you look out, it looks like the pool is an infinity edge. You [can see] the pool on every side of the house,” Bonetti says. “If I’m standing in the living room, I can see the pool, if I’m standing in the man cave, I can see the pool, if I’m in the kitchen. I can see the pool.”
The house has seven bedrooms, nine full bathrooms, and two more powder rooms.
“Every bedroom was designed around their children’s color scheme. Their daughter was gold, one of their sons had red, and another had orange,” Bonetti says.
The decor is wonderfully understated, with highlights of the chosen color here and there.
“It’s so beautiful, so elegant,” she says.
The main house has a theater, as well as a detached gym with a spa.
“You get the feel like you’re really going to the gym,” Bonetti jokes.
The all-glass gym faces a nature preserve.
The agent says her favorite part of the house is the kitchen, where the refrigerator and the freezer disappear behind paneling, and the cabinets are deep, with lots of room for storage.
“They wanted everything tucked away, clean lines,” she says, noting the interesting placement of the central hood.
“It faces the entire house, which I love,” she says. “Usually, in these types of houses, they face the kitchen inward. This is all outward.”
The island is a complete cooking station, with Wolf appliances, a small refrigerator, and a sink.
The stunning property is ready to move into, with none of the inconvenience of waiting for a new house to be completed and the comfort of a lot of land, Bonetti says.
A native of Venezuela, Cabrera is a versatile infielder who has played for six big league squads, most recently with the Washington Nationals.
