When listing agent Nicole Longworth of Keller Williams Realty put this one-of-a-kind, 1,289-square-foot, one-bedroom, 1.5-bath home on the market, she had no idea of the frenzy to follow.

Tucked into St. Louis‘ Tower Grove South neighborhood, the $195,000 home would be considered a bargain if it were located in design-savvy cities such as Palm Springs, CA, or Austin, TX.

Within the home’s first six days on the market, Longworth had received multiple offers.

The home was designed by Adrian Luchini, an architecture professor at Washington University in St. Louis, and built in 2004 by Andrew Raimist, another architecture professor at the university.

The homeowner bought the property in 2013 and made changes that only deepened its creative use, including removing a wood-burning stove and adding a sunroom.

The lot is filled with mature landscaping and features a pond, glass conservatory, and two shipping containers. One is available as a short-term rental on Airbnb, while the other is used as a workshop.

Including the sunroom and shipping container, this becomes a three-bedroom home.

Behind the wide, heavy front door are quite a few surprises.

“It’s really a work of art that you get to live in,” says Longworth.

Far from the cold and sterile aesthetic of some contemporary homes, this property is warm and cozy—in an equally cozy part of St. Louis.

“It feels very homey,” says Longworth. “People walk their dogs a lot and are out and about.”

Tower Grove Park is nearby as are “cool, little kitschy restaurants,” she adds.

The residence is “bright and open” thanks to sliding-glass doors on the entire front and back of the home.

“It’s very private for how busy the area is,” says Longworth. “You almost don’t even see the front door.” That’s because it’s nearly walled in by bamboo growth.

“We definitely have had a lot of people who are interested in architecture or in the arts,” says Longworth. Whoever walks away with the winning offer will wind up with a true stunner in St. Louis.
