A huge house that’s big on mirrors, vibrant color, and entertaining space recently had another discount. For a buyer on the hunt for a lot of space at an affordable price, we suggest a trip to Central Ohio.
The 13,000-square-foot home on Thistlehill Circle NW in Canton is available for $855,000. It had been previously listed for $1.1 million in 2018. This year, the price was cut twice, to $895,000 at the beginning of 2020 and then $875,000 this summer.
At the current list price, the massive mansion comes out to only $66 per square foot.
The five-bedroom home was built in 1984, and most of the home is a throwback to Reagan-era style.
The current owner bought the house in 2016 and updated a few things, listing agent Holly Wilson says, but the home is mostly undisturbed from its ’80s heyday.
“He put in all the feature lighting all the way through and a very expensive sound system,” says Wilson. Smart cameras were also placed throughout the house.
“This is what he liked, and he wanted to make it the way he wanted it,” Wilson adds.
A huge fountain is part of the entryway, which goes down to a living space with a high ceiling and several balconies. The listing photos show a bit of an ’80s-era office park vibe, a dash of “Miami Vice,” and a hint of “Scarface.”
“It’s very, very, very specific. It’s going to take a specific buyer,” Wilson says. “It’s very bright, very open. It’s basically a house for a person who loves to entertain.”
“It has the bar on the first level, and there’s a bar on the lower level. There’s a dance floor with a disco ball,” Wilson explains. The lower level also comes with a kitchen area.
“There are lots of different sections of the house where you can entertain,” she continues. “One party in one room, another party in another room.”
The 40-by-50-foot indoor pool is a true highlight, offering year-round swimming. A dramatic ceiling with wood beams lends the pool space a cozy feel.
“There are three different sliding glass doors, and they also open, so if you open all of them, it just feels like you’re outside because there’s so much breeze and openness to the outside,” Wilson says. The pool is near the large deck out back.
There are two full kitchens. The one upstairs has a cloud-shaped mirror on the ceiling. The appliances are stainless steel, and the cabinets are black with glossy and matte stripes.
In keeping with the friendly skies theme, the nearby dining area has a ceiling mural of clouds.
“The entertaining and party-type kitchen is downstairs,” Wilson explains. The space is “kind of shaped like an oval so you walk around. You can go in a complete circle and go from the kitchen to the living room area to the dance floor, then come back around, and then there’s the theater and the foosball table area. Then you’re back into the kitchen. It’s just a complete party atmosphere in the basement.”
The master suite is on the second floor and features mirrors on the ceiling and a bed on a platform. The master bathroom is red and black with double sinks and a huge red jetted tub.
The other bedrooms all have brightly colored carpets and walls. There are also five bathrooms and two half-baths.
“There’s so much space and square footage, and there’s just different parts of the house where you could entertain,” Wilson says. “You can have a bunch of different parties and hangouts, even if it is a huge family. There’s a lot to do in this house. Someone is going to come in and love it and make it their own.”
