Fresh from the sale of his swanky Miami Beach-area property for $17 million, the basketball coach Rick Pitino is once again dipping his toe in the Florida real estate market.

This time, the college hoops legend is offering a more modestly priced waterfront home in Fort Lauderdale, FL, for $1.55 million. The listing comes just a few months after the well-traveled coach landed a job at Iona College in New Rochelle, NY, to inject new life into the Gaels basketball team.

Pitino purchased this Florida property in 2018 for $1.38 million. Now selling two years later, he may eke out a small profit.

Either way, the remodeled abode will be a score for the next buyer.

The home is in the exclusive, gated community of Bal Harbour, and its 2,495-square-foot layout offers three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms.

Built in 1969 and totally renovated in 2017, it features an open plan and water views.

The space incorporates a large gourmet kitchen with upscale appliances, natural stone quartz counters, double pantry, and gas cooktop. The adjoining great room features 11-foot ceilings, as well as a living and dining area that accesses the grassy lawn and patio.

The interiors feature ornate wallpaper, chandeliers, and heavy drapes, which lend a somewhat dated vibe. A new owner could easily freshen up the decor to match the renovated space.

Outside, a brand-new dock and 20,000-pound boatlift complete the lawn, with space for entertaining and watching the boats go by. Although the home comes with a two-car garage, the location is walkable to shops and restaurants.

In addition to calling plays on the court, Pitino, 68, has spent years strategizing in the real estate arena.

He spent years trying to sell a pricier property on the private Indian Creek Island, the so-called “Billionaire Bunker.”

Purchased in 1999 for $5.4 million, that Mediterranean mansion had been remodeled and expanded over the years.

He placed the home on the market in 2016 for $25.6 million, in the year he was facing a recruiting scandal. After multiple price cuts, the home finally sold in April at a major discount.

Around that time, the two-time NCAA champ also placed a different property in Bal Harbour on the market, for $4.15 million.

The 6,000-square-foot, two-story home featured six bedrooms, 6.5 bathrooms, a chef’s kitchen, a master suite, high ceilings, and a “lavish” pool area. It sold for $3.3 million in 2017.

Craig Jaffa with Century 21 Hansen Realty holds the listing.
