A custom-built retreat in Big Sky is Montana’s most expensive listing. The 16,000-square-foot home on 160 acres has landed on the market for $25 million.

“This location is truly the crown jewel of Big Sky,” says listing agent Martha Johnson. “It’s a substantial piece of property.”

The owners were looking for a place to build a multigenerational family compound when they purchased the land around 2000, Johnson explains. 

Completed in 2008, Great Point Lodge is an eight-bedroom, 9.5-bathroom home constructed from reclaimed timber and stone. It sits amid meadows, trout ponds, and a trail.

The four-story home with an elevator features a lookout tower, professional-grade kitchen with an adjacent pizza room, and game room with pub-style bar, wine cellar, and 144-gallon saltwater fish tank.

All of the bedrooms are en suite with porch or patio access. The master suite also comes an outdoor shower on a covered porch.

Additional amenities include a gym, a spa with sauna and steam shower, and a hot tub overlooking the pond next to the house. There’s also an office and built-in shelves, a glassed-enclosed sunroom, and a formal dining room.

The mansion, which comes fully furnished, is the only property in this area. Although secluded, it is just minutes from the town center. With so much acreage, the next owner could choose to subdivide the land into as much as five parcels—perhaps for younger generations to build their own homes and add to the compound.

It’s a really charming ski town.” And it’s just 10 minutes by car to the slopes, which are visible from the house.

The home also connects to a private road to the Yellowstone Club, a golf and ski community that counts Bill and Melinda Gates, Google founder Eric Schmidt, and Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen as members.

The popular area is generally “high-density,” with smaller parcels of land for homes and condos.

“There are only a couple of offerings of large parcels of land, and this family got one of them,” Johnson says. “They have preserved the integrity of it and didn’t subdivide it.”
