Log Cabin From 1638 Tops the 10 Oldest Homes To Hit the Market This Week

The oldest home to hit the market this week is a New Jersey log cabin that dates to 1638. Yes, 1638.

While 2020 feels like it’s gone on forever, it is hard to even fathom what life was like four centuries ago.

When we wrote about this historic property three years ago, it was available for $2.9 million.

It’s now back on the market for just $875,000—at a whopping 70% discount. Known as the Nothnagle log home, the 17th-century structure is for sale along with its accompanying museum and antiques, making it a true treasure trove.

The rest of our look at the oldest homes for sale this week is full of homes featuring wide-plank wood floors, vintage woodwork, and exposed brick. There’s even a Pennsylvania farm that was once part of the William Penn family farmstead and dates to 1731. C.A. Nothnagle log house: This 1-acre property includes the extraordinary C.A. Nothnagle log cabin built in 1638 as part of the New Sweden Colony.

According to the listing, the log cabin is the oldest in North America. It was built with bricks carried to America in the hull of a ship as ballast and square-hewn logs secured with wooden trundle pins. The cabin currently operates as a museum. A more modern two-story, three-bedroom home with 1,800 square feet of living space sits adjacent to the old cabin.
