Why Is The Rock Renting an Atlanta Mansion? And Why Did He Rip Down Its Gate?

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has performed plenty of amazing feats on screen. The A-list actor has jumped from a mile-high crane into the open window of a building in the movie “Skyscraper,” pulled a helicopter from the sky in “Hobbs and Shaw,” and rappelled out of a helicopter to rescue a car teetering on a cliff in “San Andreas.”

However, those cinematic stunts pale in comparison with the damage the former WWE superstar caused to a rental house in Atlanta this week.

In a recent Instagram post shared with his nearly 200 million followers, Johnson somewhat sheepishly recounted how he ripped a gate off its brick moorings at an Atlanta mansion.

In a hurry to get to a shoot, he “pushed, pulled and ripped the gate completely off,” all by himself. Besides putting the fear of God into the gate-repair person with his prodigious strength, he also surprised us with the information that he is renting a massive mansion in the ATL.

Not my finest hour 🤦🏽‍♂️, but a man’s gotta go to work. We experienced a power outage due to severe storms, causing my front gate not to open. I tried to override the hydraulic system to open the gates, which usually works when power goes out – but this time it wouldn’t. Made some calls to see how fast I can get the gate tech on site, but I didn’t have 45min to wait. By this time, I know I have hundreds of production crew members waiting for me to come to work so we can start our day. So I did what I had to do. I pushed, pulled and ripped the gate completely off myself. Tore it out of the brick wall, severed the steel hydraulics and threw it on the grass. My security team was able to meet the gate technician and welders about an hour later — and they were apparently, “in disbelief and equally scared” 🤣 Not my finest hour, but I had to go to work. And I think I’m 💯 ready to be #blackadam 😄💪🏾 #ripgates

The reason for our confusion? Well, last fall, The Rock purchased a $9.5 million French country manor with a farm house in Powder Springs, GA—a western suburb of Atlanta.

The megamansion is designed for equestrian pursuits, with 46 acres, a 12-stall barn, and a riding arena. The massive main house has eight bedrooms, six bathrooms, and 14,000 square feet of living space.

The Georgia mansion he bought late last year, though, is not the place where he ripped a gate from its hinges with his bare hands.

No, the mansion with the now-repaired front gate sits about 20 miles to the east of The Rock’s home. It isn’t clear why he’s renting, but we assume he’s putting some final touches on his Powder Springs palace before moving in.

As for the place he’s renting, it’s an eight-bedroom, 8.5-bathroom Southern Colonial estate, with over 16,000 square feet of living space. When it was last on the market, the listing details touted its “recent comprehensive renovation,” as well as a “gorgeous new white kitchen.”

In 2017, the mansion was available for lease at a price of $25,000 per month. The 4-acre spread was also available for purchase that year for $8 million.

It includes a pool and tennis courts, where it appears the actor has set up his mobile gym, which he calls “The Iron Paradise.” No word on what he’s paying to rent the place, or exactly how much he had to shell out to repair the mansion’s mangled front gate.
